G’days in Sydney – day two

Next morning, we committed to walking a lot and a more healthy day all around. Began at the Rock’s Cafe a few blocks from the hotel. We ended up eating breakfast there for the next three mornings

Ate and headed out for our tourist day which included the Opera House up close, the Royal Botanical Garden, and a nice museum of aboriginal art.

The botanical garden is next to the Opera House, and is 74 acres of utterly gorgeous landscaping, birds, art, and wide open areas to congregate and lull about. Again, it was not crowded at all

The Australian Ibis were everywhere and were absolutely not afraid of people.

The Museum of New South Wales was delightful outside and in.

Many miles later we returned to the hotel to clean up and make dinner plans.

Lo and behold, we ended up back at the Mercantile bar, this time for Guinness pie. Sitting in the corner was a group of Irish folks all with instruments. They played for the rest of the evening. Again, I took videos but am not able to load them here. Here are screen shots from the videos.

We spent that night singing, clapping, and talking to the locals, a fabulous bunch of folks. The whole feeling was of being right in an Irish pub in Cork.

Back to the hotel to prepare for our departure from Sydney. Travel agent Jeff discovered then that our incoming plane had been stopped in Hawaii, and our original flights were canceled. After a hour and a half of haggling he had us booked through DFW, but a day later.

This all transpired while I was deeply in the Arms of Morpheus in my room with no idea things were changing. So, I awoke to another day in Sydney!
