We flew from Kathmandu to Sydney, via Kuala Lampur. A total of 16 hrs. With two hours in KL. The Malaysia Air lounge there was again fantastic, Jeff is spoiling me mightily.

Most impressive though were the restrooms where each men’s room stall had its’ own sink !! C’mon America!

The airport itself was very large and exceptionally clean, achieved by the use of cute floor sweeper/waxers. Of course, they had to look good as well.

We landed in Sydney, once again tired but still awake a bit. Our hotel is in The Rocks neighborhood with brick lined streets of stores and pubs (more on that later).
First thing first, we walked down to get a view of the Opera House and bridge.

After the relative roughing it aspect of our accommodations in Nepal we each walked in comfy, cozy rooms and collapsed.

Up and refreshed we left the hotel to walk the area and see the sights. Sydney, a city of 5.2 million people, but is clean, quiet and very walkable. First thing we hit was a street market full of art, food, clothing.

At the far end of the market was the entryway to walk over The Bridge. We never heard or saw the name of The Bridge so that remained its’ name for us.
North Sydney is across the river and is one of the better places to take pictures of the Opera House and bridge.

While walking is The Bridge is free, walks up it are offered as well, for only$300. We passed on that adventure as the day was devolving into a full on pub crawl.
Once back on the South side we bought a few little things we had seen at the market before and headed on into Sydney proper to continue our search for the best pubs.

At the Legion of War, Sydney’s oldest pub, we met and befriended Markie – one year older than me. Markie is a daily regular and was the nicest guy you’d want to meet, but was totally unintelligible due to accent and alcohol.

We continued our search and landed at the Mercantile Hotel bar/pub. These two pubs became our favs, and entertained us for a couple of nights.

We went back that night to the Mercantile for some of the best fish and chips either of us had eaten. After eating the pub filled up and a band kicked in.

We finally called it a night and hit the hotel.
